Default ??? Fat quarters for Yellow Brick Road ???

I have a question about the Yellow Brick Road pattern. Do the 12 fat quarters all need to be different or is it better for some to be duplicates?

Also, I'd LOVE it if you've made this quilt and want to share a pic!

Thanks so much!

I have never made this pattern so I am no help to you! I did do a search here on QB for yellow brick road quilts and I guess I just don't know how to use the search feature. I can never find anything that I am looking for when I use it. I did a google search and this is what I came up with. . . .

I like them to be different, but can be in the same color family. Out of the three that I have done, the FQs were all different. Here are some links to my Album on the board with pictures of my YBRs.

Can not wait to see what you come up with for yours

I made a queen sized for my parents for Christmas last year and used all different fat quarters. I love this pattern.

it is certainly your choice whether or not you (mix it up) use all different fq's or only use 3 or 4 different ones- the more you use the more variety to the quilt design. i have seen them made with very little variety and they are still quite nice.

I made mine using different fabrics. However, I did try to use the same color.

I've made one YBR. I used a fat quarter pack and added in some additional fabrics. this is before I quilted it.

I think it is best if you have no repeats. I have made 15 of these quilts. It's my go to pattern.

I am not a scrappy quilter - for my first quilt I did an over sized queen YBR and I was told to use 30 fabrics!!! Well, I did fussy cut the one large piece so each large piece was a magnolia and the border was the magnolia pattern. Anyway, the next YBR I did I used 15 fabrics and it was more to my liking and the next one had 7 fabrics and I love that one. Just remember to adjust your yardage for each fabric choice. Have fun!
