I love log cabin as well, but my all-time favorite block is the Ohio Star. It's another one that can look so different, depending on your fabrics and how you set it. For some reason, this particular pattern rings my chimes, even though I've never been to Ohio! I have yet to make one, though!

My favorite is still the first one I ever did, Blackford's Beauty. Just something about that block than enchants me. Its a lot of fun to get the top out I started with last year, make a few more and compare my progress.

I'm with you, Sandpat.....love trying new blocks and they are always my favorite when I'm doing them. I tend to try a really difficult pattern (for a beginner) for projects that involve just a few blocks or to provide to a charitable organization. I know that i have plenty of time, I'm adding new tricks to my repetior, and they stand out from other blocks.

Log cabins are so versatile, and chains of all sorts for pieced favorites. I also love appliqued baskets and flowers, and quilts that tell stories or contain a lot of symbolism.

My favorites is the Churn Dash (aka something else) and the Court House Steps...
Don't have any samples but those are my favorites.

Granny Cat, the Blackford's Beauty was one of last years Blocks of the Month. Here's the links to the posts here on the board...

I find myself going back to the disappearing 9-patch for something quick but not too simple-looking. There's a lot you can do with it depending on fabric selection.
