Ok, all you FW owners. I am going to be going to Hunstvill, AL to help my mom get around her house after her hip replacement due to a break. She was going to actually bring me her FW this Christmas, but just couldn't do it. I am hoping to be able to bring it back with me on the plane.

My question is this...what are the outside dimentions of the case? I was thinking I could put the machine, case and all, in my carryon bag. But if it is too thick, I might have to just lug the whole thing. But that would limit what else I could take with me on the flight since my neck still isn't the best after my surgery. Whew! I thought I might could put the case in my big suitcase and just put the machine by itself into the carry-on. What are your thoughts?

You probably don't want to ship the machine, because you would have done that by now if you wanted to go that route. If you can fit it in your carryon bag, then you might ship your clothes home :-)

I am planning which bag to take by the size of the FW case. I am taking more than one suitcase (one empty to start) and my carryon. I am nesting the empty suitcase.

If at all possible, I would put the FW in the carry on bag. Not at home right now but will measure my case when I get home.

Personally, I would rather trust my PURSE with an airline before I would trust my FEATHERWEIGHT. lol

I have one case that is about 15 inches long. Not where the machine is so can't measure. Take it as carryon if you can. Luggage gets thrown around too much by the airlines even if it is marked fragile.

I would use the machine and case as my carryon...don't forget to remove the needle and all extra needles. Pack them and anything else that might be confiscated in the checked luggage.

I think if you can't take your FW on the plane with you the best bet is to ship it home. Take it to one of the mail center that ships UPS or FedEx .It will cost about $30 and be sure to insure it. I had one shipped to me from Ca last year. He just packed it well.
You might also think about wrapping up the Fw in your clothes in your carry on and put the case in the checkin luggage. that way it's sure to fit ui

Thanks for the measurements! Now I have to get up into the attic to measure bags! I will not mail this baby. Mama bought her with her secretary money in 1958. Six dollars a week on layaway! Her family told her she was crazy to spend that much ($200) on a sewing machine, but she wanted it badly. I still have Barbie clothes she sewed on that thing. I am hoping I don't make her too mad by cleaning out stuff from the house. She might change her mind!
