I'm not talking about a foot for free motion, I'm talking about a walking foot to do "stitch in the ditch" and also stitching number of layers without the fabrics shifting.

I use my walking foot on my FW all the time and it works just fine for SID. I bought the Singer low shank Walking foot and my cheaper generic foot also fits. If I want to FM on my FW, I just cover the feet dogs with the feed cover plate from my buttonholer. It all works and I can't see any reason not to quilt with a FW. The only difficulty is the size of the harp but wall hangings and crib quilts are no problem. The largest quilt I stitched with my FW was almost a double.
