I might have used a yellow binding.
The other ideas are great, too.

I think it looks good for a boy. With the cowboy you put on it I assume that is who will get it. Light does not always wear good with little boys. I like it the way it is.

what color thread you are going to quilt it with and what design in the plain blocks would affect the overall look also.

I think it is wonderful and that you should leave it as is. I agree with consulting with the customer to see what she thinks. But, it sure looks western to me and I live in the western cowboy type state of Nevada.

How about a few yellow/gold "stars" in the solid blue squares, just a few just heat on bond and stitch around. But I think it's adorable! Love the Cowboy.

I also agree with QuiltnNan. Also if you do your own quilting you could put a quilting design (in a light color) in the blue squares like a cowboy hat or boots. You could a;so request it if you have it done.

Just a thought not knowing how you plan to quilt it......how about quilting the blue squares with bright variegated thread .

Quilted motifs in the solid squares using lt. blue thread might work.

That would be me, too. I think it looks good, but I use a lot of blue.
