My sweet little Featherweight was in perfect condition, but she absolutely stank, and her case was even worse. Y'all had lots of suggestions and I tried everything. After googling forever, I found someone whose FW apparently smelled even worse than mine, and she cured it! So I ordered this stuff, and it really works. And I'll bet you wish I'd just hurry up and tell you what it is, right???? But don't I first have to tell you about how it's not sold in stores (it isn't), operators are standing by, and if you order right now, you'll get a free set of Ginsu knives (Anybody remember those?) all for only $19.95 (plus shipping & handling, in very tiny print, of course)?? NOT!!!

It's called Nok-Out. You can order it online, Amazon has it, and it really worked. I had a nice chat with the man who made it, and he said the only odor it won't remove is moth balls. I sprayed it inside my machine, wiped up the puddles, and then dried it with my blow dryer (don't want any rusting in there). He said the odor in the case may come back, because it gets pulled out of the wood. Just spray it again each time the smell comes back, and eventually you will get it all.

Well, there it is. No more stinky stuff. It didn't even cost a fortune. But no Ginsu knives.

NOTE: just noticed a bit of surface rust on the metal parts in the box. After you spray, better dry the metal. And be sure to dry your machine thoroughly! Mine looks fine.

I am so happy for you! Here is a little suggestion for your case when you get it in better shape, save those little pkgs. that come in new shoes and purses and other things and put them in your case. I think that they help draw moisture out. You know, the little pkgs. that say, "Do not eat!" ha

I took a class on how to maintain your FW. Oil and grease and de-grease.There is a catch thing that catches oil on your machine and it can be replaced. That thing smells like old oil and is stinky. Can be part of the problem.

hmm, is it the "old oil" smell- I like that smell. Maybe why I like old cars too.

I hate "new car" smell. When I buy a car I make them clear it out- seriously- it makes me nauseous.

I agree. The new car smell gives me bad headaches.
