I have been adding to my stash of fabrics over recent months and have managed to get a nice selection of sale or end of bolt fabrics but most have been purchased with no particular project in mind or at least no particular pattern, so why then do I have a problem, once I have found a pattern or project I want to try, going into my stash and bringing out fabrics and making that first cut? It is like I think that a different pattern may come along that is more suited to a fabric, what is up with that? I do know that for every fabric that I have and love there are hundreds more out there that I will love just as much. Whew, that was long, but maybe putting it into words will help me overcome my fear, the first step of my twelve step program for me the fabric hoarder.

I used to feel that way also, not so much anymore. I know that whatever i decide to use, I can replace it with something just as beautiful. And using gives me an excuse to go buy more. Go ahead, and take that first step!! It only hurts for a little while

Go for it Mama Bear. And I agree with everything Ninnie said. It certainly gives you a chance to buy more.

I know how you feel MamaBear. I have fabrics I just can't make myself use because they are so wonderful and I might never find them again. My realistic side says why did you buy it if you don't use it, but my artistic side just won't let go.

I do that all the time. I have some fabric that I would love to cut into but I just cannot bring myself to do it.

MamaBear, don't be like me. I now still have fabric I bought in 1984. And I bought yards because I was afraid I would make a mistake and not have enough, much of it has never been cut. This year is the year to start in my stash first and yes I will still buy fabric, but I will find things to go with some of what I already have on hand. I may end up using a lot of my big pieces in my stash for quilt backs. I don't always feel my back has to match the quilt. In fact sometimes if I have a real traditional front I will put something a little funky or the exact opposite on the back and it seems to work.

I use to do the same thing with some of my really nice clothes, I would be afraid to wear them, just in case I ruined them. Well guess what, I eventually out grew some of those clothes which were hardly ever worn. Now I use everything, clothes, nice dishes. Life is too short enjoy.

You go girl.

Shaverg,

I can relate I was recently going through tubs looking for fabric to back a project and found fabric that I bought when my son was a child (mid 80's) the good news is that Mario is back in style (lol)

MamaBear, my friend says I am a collector of fabric.

I also never buy a FQ. I always buy at least 1 yard, just in case. LOL
