finger guard for sewing machines?
Hi-
My 3.5 year old has taken an interest in sewing with me and I thought I would ask around and see if finger guards are a worthwhile investment. I have a Brother XR-9000. I'm not even sure if they make them for that machine. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I haven't seen a finger guard for a sewing machine, but then I haven't been looking for one either!
I sat on my mom's lap at about that age and helped hem dishtowels for my grandmother. Apparently I didn't get my hand in the way of the needle...think I would have remembered that if I had!

Last year when I wanted to teach my grandkids to sew, I searched with Google to find a finger guard. Some of the ones I saw were made of wire, and attached with the presser foot. I showed a picture of one to my son and he managed to create a reasonable facsimile from copper wire. Google is your friend.

I have a dear friend that was sewing too fast for her own good last week end and hit her finger not once but twice. Very painfull, but probably not as bad as then I actually sewed thru my own finger, needle thread and all......
Perhaps needle guards are more for adults than children...will have to look for one......

I pieced an entire king sized quilt with a 3 year old on my lap. The rule was she had to keep her hands on her lap to be able to "help" me. I wouldn't recommend the 3.5 year old help with feeding fabric through...

Did not go past the first page on this link, so do not know anything about pricing, shipping, stock, etc. but it may be worth a try.
