Talking First Quilt Block!

I just figured id share my very first quilt block:

A friend of mine offered to show me how to quilt. I THOUGHT she'd start me on something small and simple. nope she threw me head first into paper piecing! She picked out the colors and pre cut these strips for me, and helped me sew the first square or so... and i did the rest. It's pretty interesting. I have to wonder how the first quilter came up with the concept of "lets sew strips of fabric at certain angles, make a cube and then sew those together and get a blanket!" Hehehe i'm going to hopefully have more sewing "dates" and coutinue it. if im lucky i might get it done before Christmas and i guess i will give it to my mother. (so she can put it on the couch) i assume its going to be lap sized as thats her favorite size to do. it didnt occur to me to ask.

Wow! That is beautiful. I have never paper pieced. Maybe that should be next for me? Hmmmm, may need to find someone local to help me though.

Great block but regular piecing is easier I think than paper piecing. If you survived your first block, the next should be easier.
