Default flannel baby blanket

I need ideas for a flannel baby blanket, has any one taken just the flannel yardage and made the blanket from the whole piece and not cut into squares or strips? I am open to any ideas and suggestions.

Thanks.

Yes I've done that. I used a yard of cotton and a yard of flannel and birthed it without batting. I quilted it by starting at one edge and sewing 1 1/2" from the edge all the way across until 1 1/2" from the next edge, pivoting to sew the next line, etc. until I got to the middle. Very easy, very quick and it's been one of my DDs favorite blankets to use for her kids.

two pretty fabrics and just some plain stitching in the middle to hold them together. unless of course, you're a talented LA'er.

I've also tied a flannel baby quilt. Sometimes those little ones like to touch and feel the little ties.

I make these all the time for the new babies in our church. Great opportunity to use those decorative stitches that usually sit idle on my sewing machine. I don't "quilt" the middle, but make a large X through it to hold the layers together when washing.

Check out Jenny Doan's Self-Binding Receiving Blanket video on YouTube!! Needs a 40" square and a 30" square of coordinating flannels (measurement AFTER washing flannel in hot water and drying on high to get shrinkage out of the way)...........Blanket takes less than an hour and they are really WONDERFUL.........and very addictive..........My daughter had 5 in-laws who were expecting this year, and I made 2 for each family.............
