Here is another question that has probably been asked and answered, if I am making a baby quilt and using flannel as the backing, do I still need to use a batting in the middle? Your help is always greatly appreciated.

If you want a light weight quilt no you don't need batting.
You can also use another piece of flannel for the batting, or actual batting. It all depends on warm of a quilt baby needs/wants :D:D:D

I think it would be up to you. I made a couple of small quilts for the NICU and used cotton for the backing and flannel for the batting so they would not be so heavy, so you can pretty much do what you like. The one problem you might have if you just used the flannel back and no batting is the seams may show on the back with no batting in between.

For me it depends on where they live also. Here in Idaho it is really cold in the winter. I use batting, so that the parents can use it to go out, as well as stay home.
