    I have joined it, no problems, opened seams, quilted no problems and barely noticeable

    Joining a seam might just end up being bulky.

    Get the wide fleece. That would be better than a seam.

    As I am frugal and on a budget, I've done it I've joined the fleece as if it would be batting, by hand, and then used bias tape (because I had some at hand - would sure work with a "normal" strip of fabric) to cover it. I only recently learned to join batting with the machine, so I haven't done it yet, but I'm sure that would also work with fleece. Here's what mine looked like:
