Flying geese ruler

Does anyone have problems with Quilt In a Day flying geese ruler. Sometimes the I come up short on the measurement of the geese. I am fairly precise on my cutting of the fabric and positioning one fabric on top of the other. I sew accurately. I just can't figure out why this happens. I have tried the other method for making flying geese where you layer two little squares on top of a larger square. But, I really prefer this ruler.

she must have a tute on her site for this ruler. you might try that or if the ruler came with directions, sit down and read them again. it's just got to be a light bulb moment. it will come to you!

I love these rulers, too. :)
My studio being what it is, the instructions are never with the ruler, but she keeps them on her free patterns page, down on the left side: http://www.quiltinaday.com/freepattern/
Just taking a wild guess, but at the point where you layer the HST's together, you might be lining up the seams, instead of the outside edges of the squares. That's the only thing I can think of that would make your blocks small.
If you can take pictures of your steps and how you're coming up short, maybe we can help you?

I love my flying geese rulers and never had any problems with them. I keep the instructions with my rulers so I have them when I need them. Been awhile since I've used them tho. I like the idea that you can get two flying geese from one block. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

I also love my flying geese rulers. The blocks are perfect. I found that the ruler slips a little, so I must put the film on them, as they suggest in the video. I use a rotating mat and find this helpful.

I had that problem a few times at first. Operator error. Be sure you are using 1/4" seams, NOT scant 1/4". As others have said, the ruler tends to slip a little. Be sure you are holding it in place with the green lines ON the seam line of the V. You can do it. Just keep going.

I went online and downloaded the different methods for making FG.
I really don't like the QID ruler. It is easier for me to use a regular ruler and cut the desired sized pieces.
I have 4 different ways to make the FG. If I had a whale of a lot to do I might consider using something like triangles/FG on a roll paper piecing.
Do what you like and feel comfortable doing. One friend makes hers one at a time using the rectangle and 2 small squares method ... and hers always look great.
