For laughs I went to Cheapfares and put in info to fly from here to Paducah.
To drive from my place is approx 6 - 7 hours.
To fly (are you ready for this?) takes 8 !!
What a laugh.
Who'd want to fly if driving is quicker (and cheaper)?

makes no sense to me. I'd drive, that way I'd have my vehicle to get around.

Some time driving is easier. My husband used to travel from Pittsburgh to Detroit monthly. He'd drive 45 min to airport, arrive at airport 1 hour early, fly to Detroit, rent a car and then drive to hotel. Involved almost 5-6 hours. He can drive there in 3 1/2 hours!! And it's cheaper and he has his car.

I haven't checked with my oldest DD (she used to be a travel agent years ago) but I have a feeling I'd have to fly into Detroit or Chicago or Atlanta instead of just flying straight to Paducah. How crazy. Seems like the birds have more sense than flight plans.

That is just plain silly. Of course you would opt to drive. What are the airlines thinking.

8 hours??? Did you add in the extra hours at the airport waiting to get ON the plane?????? Wow, yeah, I'd drive.

OH! I'm in Oregon. I just did a search for flights and it would take me 9 1/2 hours from here!!!!

The low fares have lots of layovers and plane changes for some airlines. There use to be a flight from Nashville to Paducah but not now. I'm six hours away from Paducah so it's an easy morning drive, no major cities along the way so not much traffic.

No I didn't. That's a good point. That must add at least 2 more hours, eh? I haven't flown since before 9/11 but I've heard it's a nightmare now. You have to get there so early, they confiscate items, now you have to go through the "revealing" type of Xray machine (believe me, they don't want ME to go through there...lol). Forget it!

With charges for carry-ons, and rumors of charging for potty use on planes, I think I'd drive, too. You all have fun!

Sounds like a fun drive. Road trips are the most fun anyway.

I don't find post-9/11 air travel to be a hassle and I go through one of the world's busiest airports. I've had delays due to mechanical problems and weather but I had those kind of delays before 9/11. The TSA people I deal with are nice. No complaints from me (but I've probably just jinxed myself).
