Hello everyone,

I made a dresden plate with July 4th fabric. I want to sew it onto white fabric. I am brand new at quilting and I was wondering after I sew it on fabric, what do I do next? I also want to put binding on (try)
Any help would really be appreciated.

Are they traditional Dresden Plates with the curved end blades? If so, you need to turn under the curved edges for sewing them down. You can make a cardboard template the same curve as the blade end and use it on the wrong side of each blade to help press over 1/4 inch with your iron.
If you have done the pointed end Dresden Plate, then it is ready to stitch to a background square. You can either hand appliqué it down or machine appliqué it to the background square. Some people like to stitch the center circle on before stitching the plate down, some people like to stitch the center circle down after the plate is appliquéd to the background square. If you look on Youtube, there is probably a tutorial on Dresden Plates.

After you have your dresden plate sewn to the background fabric, then if that is all you are making, you would do the layer of top/batting/backing fabric sandwich. Then do some quilting to hold those together. Once finished with that is when you would do your binding.

A photo would help. Are you just making one block? Did you get a pattern from a book? There are different techniques for appliqueing the Dresden plate onto your background square. Usually books with patterns have the basic steps to make a quilt such as the top, batting suggestions and the backing. You sandwiching them together with with safety pins or basting spray. The batting used is usually dependent on how you are going to quilt the top by machine or hand. If you have a library near by, go and find a basic book on quilting. Good Luck.
