Default FMQ using Embroidery Hoop?

I've been playing around with some thread painting on my sit down FMQ machine. My question for you all that use embroidery machines...can I use one of the larger hoops, 5 x 12", for thread painting. Stabilizers just are not holding the fabric taut and my xstitch hoop is a bit hard to get under the FMQ foot and needle. I have been looking at one on Amazon that looks to be flat and wouldn't snag on anything while moving it around. What do you think?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Sneed

There are YouTube videos of thread painting with a hoop. The only problem I can see of see with a large hoop, is not being able to get the hoop up against the machine harp. You might do better with a smaller hoop and rehoop it in sections.

I thank you for your response. I will continue to try different things. I am worried that moving the hoop may loosen the fused applique. If it wasn't appliqued I think that would work just fine. We shall see.
