So I have been reading all the threads about how everyone loves their Go cutter. I have had one, with tons of dies, for years, and used it to cut out one quilt when I first got it (which I never did put together) and to make a 5" rag baby quilt, which I donated. Tell me what I am missing by not using it. I find I get accurate cuts with the June Taylor Shape Cut, which I think is much quicker than the Go. A couple people have offered to buy it, but it seems like they want me to just about give it away because I'm not using it. Between the cutter and the dies I have, I probably have about $1200 invested in it. Is there a particular quilt pattern that you find works well the Go? Please help me with some ideas for using my Go cutter. Thanks!

I too bought the Go because I thought I had to have it. I bought a lot of the dies too including the strip dies. I don't have anywhere to leave it out so if I want to use it I have to drag it out if the cupboard it and all the dies sit in. It is such a hassle to do this. I too just grap my JT shape cut ruler and get the accurate cuts I need and it is done lickety split! I have too much invested in it to get rid of it. Hopefully when we move my sewing area will be bigger and I will be able to keep it out for easier access. I probably use it more if it wasn't such a hassle to get it out and put it away!

for me, a die cutter works better than the shape cut ruler. seems the ruler always slips. the other thing I think die cutters are great for are curved piecing (apple core, drunkard's path, rob peter etc.) and odd angles like a tumbler. It's kind of the proper tool for the proper job. I cut strips with the die cutter, then sub cut into squares using the ruler. If you can use a ruler and rotary cutter then that's what you should use!

I do agree that it makes fast work of curved pieces. I have both the drunkards path and apple core block die but those are not quilts I would make more than one of. The rag die is nice too. The Go definately has its good points no doubt. Personally if I knew then what I know now I would not have bought one.

I have my Go sitting out and all the dies in the Go racks so I can see them. I use it all the time. I have a scrap of fabric I find a die shape it fits and cut a shape. I store the shapes by size. I don't know why so many think the Go is not useful but I'm glad I love it. I have way more then $1200 invested and would buy it again. In fact I have the Go Baby, bought two of those but my DD borrowed one and will keep it and the other is at guild.

I prefer the Shape Cut over the Go! for cutting strips. I like the Go! for odd shapes (such as the tumbler) and for triangles (cuts these very accurately, so they are easy to match).

Have you went to the website. They have tons of patterns and some are free. I love the shape die but also have others. The first thing I did when I got mine was to cut all of the odds and ends into squares and put them into small plastic organizers. I also love the rag die; I wouldn't make a rag quilt without it. I make lots of squares (including making the sandwhich and sewing it together and keep them in a large tote and then when I need a fast quilt all I have to do is figure out what squares I want and sew them together.

My daughters bought me one for my birthday last year. I have used it to cut up my stash scraps and to make one quilt so far. I agree that if it was sitting out and easily accessible it would get used more often. I am using mine right now to cut 2.5" strips (borrowed this die from a friend) to make a scrappy quilt off the Bonnie K. Hunter website. I have quite a few more shirts to dismember and cut into strips before I can start the quilt, but the process has definitely been faster this way. I have downloaded some of the free quilt patterns to try at a later date. I would love to add more designs to my stash of dies.

I use mine all the time especially for scraps. After a project, I cut up everything into useful sizes. Now when I want to do a scrap quilt I just grab the pieces and go. I use the 2.5" strip cutter a lot. Jelly rolls are all the rage...now I can cut my own.

You know, I think this is why I don't use it! I have to drag it out to use it. never thought of that. Everything else is easily accessible so I just grab it first. Guess I'll get it out and see what I have and what I can do with it.
Maybe if I leave it out for awhile I'll become inspired! Thanks kids!!
