Default Frame quilting

I have a question about my frame. I have the original little Gracie frame with the original wooden handles. I'm using a Janome 1600p , which I love. My question is, does anyone have experience with using a grace frame with wooden handles and then upgraded to the metal carriage with metal handles? Was there a difference? I'm having a hard time getting a smooth flow going. I know its a heavier machine than what I was previously using ( singer 301 ), but I just can't get good circles and other roundish shapes very easy. I just wonder if its worth getting the upgraded carriage. Thanks, Gina

The upgrade carrage does make a big differance. It is more stable on the frame and does not wooble as much.
