Talking Freckleberry Farm's Sugar Plum Quilt-- need help

Hello,

I am new to this board and have been referred by several quilters who mentions someone on this group may be able to help.

Has anyone made a quilt using the pattern Sugar Plum by Freckleberry Farms? If you have and it went together correctly, will you PLEASE send me the correct measurements to cut the fabric. Something is VERY off, if you cut the fabric as stated in the pattern, you do not get a 12X12 square. Tried to contact Sherie Bignell numerous times to get the corrections. She either does not answer her e-mail or phone or if after a week of trying she finally gets on the phone she argues that the measurements are correct then when she sees the problems says she will get back with the corrections-- so far after 12 days of these games, no progress.

Thank you so much

I looked this pattern up online to see what it looks like:

I assume you're having problems with the pieced block?

Yes. When you cut the fabrics, the numbers don't work out. Tells you to cut a 5X5, a 5X 4, sew them together using a 1/2" seam since using flannel. that would make the block 5X8. Now you are suppose to take one 8 1/2 X 4 and attach to one side and another 8 1/2 x 4 and attach to the other side. Oops, does not fit. The center square is suppose to be cut 12 X 4.

5x5 & 5x4 sewn together with a 1/2"seam for flannel equals 5x8 1/2' not 5x8. Your 8 1/2 should fit if I am not misunderstanding.

I think if you check again....if you sew a 1/2 inch seam for flannel as instructed ..that would take 1/2 inch from each of your pieces (the 5 would become 4.5 and the 4 would become 3.5----thus giving you an 8 inch result) That is how the pattern is miscalculated/misprinted. About the only solution if you have not already sewn is to do a 1/4" seam on these pieces...using a very small stitch...and maybe do pinking on the raw edge or something else to reduce fraying. So sorry you have had so much trouble with a pattern....i'm sure you're frustrated.

Before you start adjusting, better look ahead as to what size is the final piece to be added to the block, on the left side.

What size do you cut the big squares (the ones that are not pieced)? If you provide that cut measurement (or finished measurement; either one), I believe I can work out the cut sizes of all the other pieces (given the 5" cut size that seems to apply to all the pieces in the pieced block).

Edit: Working it out on paper, it does appear that a 5" square sewn to a 5"x4" piece would equal 8". There is only one 1/2" seam between them. 5+4-1=8. So the piece sewn together would be 8"x5".

It would also help if you would provide all of the stated cut sizes for the pieced block.

does the pattern call for 1/2 inch seams due to flannel or 1/4 inch seams??

This does look off. I think this is the block in question. The black numbers are the cut sizes you indicated, the red numbers are the finished dimensions, using a half inch seam.

Did I understand this correctly?? If so, no, they don't add up. Before suggesting a solution, what are the cut sizes of the plain framed blocks? since everything needs to fit together, need this dimension too. Have you cut everything?

Specifically says that ALL seems are 1/2" unless stated otherwise.

Says cut 1 square 5 X5
1 piece 5X4
2 8 1/2 X 4
1 12 X4
