Default Janome "P" foot on 6600???

I was at a friend's home watching her free motion quilting on her Janome machine. I didn't pay attention to what model it was but she was using a "P" foot. I know it is the machine that she does all her sewing on - it is the only machine she owns. But I didn"t realize it must be a sewing/embroidery machine. I do know it is a much older machine. My question is - can I use the "P" foot on my 6600? I just went on line to find one to order one but it doesn't list the 6600. I guess it's just wishful thinking and I'm hoping that it will work.

Thanks for any help. Pat

I always get this mixed up BUT I think it's the 6600 that's high shank whereas most Janome's are low shank. Or maybe it's the other way around! I have a stickie note at home to remind me of which is which but I'm at work and can't remember for sure.

I have 2 Janomes (a 6600 and a 3160) and one is high and the other is low, and they can't share some feet but they can share others.

If in doubt...find the part number for that foot and look up your 6600 on Janome.com and see if that part number is listed as an accessory for it.

I don't know what foot the "P" foot is, unfortunately.

Or, you could always just test it! See if you can borrow the foot from your friend, put it on your machine (if it will fit) and then hand-crank through a cycle and see if anything hits. If it fits and nothing hits go ahead and do a few stitches and see if everything looks OK.

I had a 6600 and loved it ... I don't know about the P foot.

For the 6600, there is a FMQ packet with three interchangeable shoes for the one foot. It is far nicer than just using the hopping/darning foot ... and was what got me hooked on FMQing. It really is a worthwhile investment for your machine.

QuiltE where did you buy this package? My Janome dealer said the darning foot is the only foot they sold for the 6600. I tried to fmq with it but I couldn't get the tension right so I went back to my Brothers. I will play around with it some more when I have nothing to do. Lol

...........from my Janome dealer! It is just a standard stock item in their store, and still is, as I was there when someone bought one the other day. How sad that your dealer is not familiar with the products that she sells!

When I bought the machine, I told her that I wanted to do FMQing and she said that it was what I would want. So I negotiated it as part of the deal.

I googled around so you could get a visual as to what you are looking for .........
http://sarahlovesfabric.com/category...-shows/page/2/
.....scroll waaaaaaay down and you will see a red and black package with the main shank and the three interchangeable feet. If you are buying/ordering, just be sure you get the right set, as there is one for high shank, one for low shank. Sorry, I can't remember which the 6600 is!

Despite what this blogger says about the plastic being a problem for visibility, I had no problem at all ... and it was my favourite of the three. It set nicely against the quilt sandwich as I worked on it. With this, you also have an adjustment for height, so you can lower/raise the foot according to your sandwich thickness. You want it just loose enough that your sandwich moves easily under it, but not too sloppy (if you know what I mean?).

When I had used the darning foot for FMQ before, I hated the pounding and bounce ... this set up was enough different that it removed that problem. As I said before, it is what got me hooked and let me know that I could truly enjoy FMQ. Hope you do too!

I have that foot and I absolutely agree!!

I looked it up: this convertible foot for the 6600 is part 202001003 - go to Janome.com and search for that number and you'll see the foot we're talking about. I use that plastic "dish" shaped end on the foot and I LOVE it. I can totally see what I'm doing. I still am not very practiced at FMQ but this foot helps!

And the 6600 is high shank, I looked that up too.

Oh...and I just searched for "P foot" on Janome.com and they have it listed there but it sounds like it's JUST for embroidery machines.

Part #830810042, the description is simply, "Standard foot used for professional style embroidery on all Janome embroidery machines." The listing for feet under the 6600 doesn't include this foot so I am assuming it would NOT fit the 6600.

SewNoma ... Thanks for finding it ... our Canadian site had the listing of accessories, but not links with detail

PghPat ...
here's a direct link to it for you ........

The above link also mentions the extra bobbin holder. You just interchange it with the original when you go to do FMQing and it helps get the tension set up for you. Another worthwhile investment for enjoying your 6600 and FMQing all the more!

Thank you ALL so very much. There is no place on the Internet like our Quilting Board - I don't know what I'd do without it. Ask any question and you are sure to get help.

I did a bunch of research and did find the set and I am going to order it just as soon as I get back up North - next week. One of the only complaints I read was that a good many people said their only complaint was that the feet didn't come with very good directions. Then on another site someone said that when you open the package it seems to be one piece of heavy cardboard and people don't realize that the directions are between the front and back of the packaging - you need to seperate the cardboard to find them.

Thanks again - I can't wait to get my new feet. Anyone suggest the best place to buy them or is the pricing the same no matter where? Practicing FMQ'ing over the summer was one of my goals so this will most likely help - at least inspire me to work on it.

Pat

PghPat ... there's no real instructions needed. Just put the foot on and start FMQing! It's just a normal foot change, except for the ability to change the toes! So like three feet in one. I can't remember whether there were any specific instructions beyond what was on the boxboard packaging. Unfortunately your Florida LQS does not know about it, though any good Janome dealer should just have it in stock, and not require a special order.

Once you get it and get started ... we'll be here to help you continue on if you do have questions! FMQing is all about practice, practice practice .......... and then some more practice!!!!!! Good Luck ... it is addictive!
