Default Boston area peeps - Winmil Fabrics Q

I have been reading on here about the price of fabric. Shocking!!!

I just started quilting and went to a little place in Chinatown called Winml Fabrics. Their cottons were on sale for $3/yard (usually $5/yard). How do they keep their prices so low? Is this just really poor quality fabric? Seems fine to me, but what would I know...

Anyhoo, after reading some older posts about the price of fabric, I feel like I should run back over there and buy out the whole store!!!

My sister and I always visit this fabric store when we are in Boston. We carry bags of fabric back to Ohio. The sales people are always so friendly and helpful. Yes, you should run back and buy more.

I love going there, but I don't think the quilting fabric is all that great.

I used to go there regularly when I worked right around the corner. Of course, this was BEFORE I started quilting.

What are the brands of fabrics? If name brand, I think you can judge the quality from there. Look at the selvages rather than at the cardboard holders.

When I work in Quincy, I go over to Sewfisticated on Morrisey Boulevard in Dorchester. They are selling for 2.99 and 3.99 a yard. Most are name brand - some of the "lesser" brands in some cases - but I've found some of the same fabrics that are carried in my LQS. The key difference, I believe, is that the fabrics are not from older fabric lines.

The Sewfisticated in Framingham carries nicer quilting fabrics. There are three stores that are run by family members. Apparently, each has a different eye so, while they have some of everything, they concentrate on their "specialty".. The one who runs the Framingham store apparently has an "eye" for quilting cottons.
