Thanks for the thoughts! Personally, I wasn't really affected by the fires, other than ash on my cars - from the one in Los Padres National Forrest. A couple of interesting sunsets.

I haven't been on the boards lately a lot becuase of my hip replacement. Also, I was recently diagnosed with a high grade DCIS. So I am having a lumpectomy and sentinel node biospy next week, followed by radiation. I seem to be spending a lot of time seeing doctors lately, which doesn't make me hapy.

Cats are funny, doncha think? They want to be left alone when you want to spend time with them, but get busy doing something else and they just gotta be in the thick of it!
Well, I can only take credit for the top made of the fabric I got in Barstow. The other top is one I am restoring.

I find the best way to work with fabric is pull out a bunch of fabric you like, throw it on the floor, and start making squares. I did that with the Barstow fabric - I was just limited because I didn't have much fabric. I wound up having to add a few fabrics to have enough.

That top is almost completed! I have to sew three more rows together and it is done!

And yep, cats are funny - mine is attracted to quilt tops. :)

Boy, when it rains, it pours! My Mom had radiation therapy a few years ago and now she's back to her young self again.

If you would, we would sure like to kept up in this, we're you're quilting family and will be here for you through the ups and (if you have any), downs.

Is your hip all better now?

I hope that all goes well with you. If I may ask, what is DCIS? How is the hip replacement going? Had a total knee replacement 3 weeks ago and I feel as if I am slow moving, but have to take it one day at a time. Haven't done any sewing yet - go and sit in sewing room and pull things together for the block swap, wash fabric, but no cutting or sewing.

Love your blocks you are putting together. Stay positive.

Well, I need an umbrella right about now.

I am doing well with the hip replacement - I am hiking and climbing (on a top rope, so no falls involved) again! The scar is the only thing that really bothers me at this point.

I am glad to here your mom did well with radiation therapy! I don't think it will be too bad; I'll be able to work.

I will keep you guys informed. :) I've been reading the board, but little time to post.

You know, I was thinking that I need to get some hand piecing projects going, so I have something to do while sitting in medical waiting rooms. Perhaps a charm quilt - an apple core maybe. Any suggestions.?

DCIS means ductal cancer in situ. ie, very treatable form of breast cancer.

My hip replacement is the best thing I've done. It is nice to have a working hip again. I don't envy you having a knee replacement; I understand they are more difficult and painful than hip replacements. My father-in-law had both knees replaced at once. It was slow going for a while, but he was hapy with the results. Are you going to pt?

Do you do applique? If so, perhaps you'd like to do some Hawaiian quilting.
Leslee gave us a few websites to look at and on page two Steve showed us his in progress.

That is an idea I hadn't thought of. I have a book of Hawaiian patterns somewhere...
