glide thread

Is it okay to use glide thread for just stitching/piecing? It's 100% polyester and "inherited" from a long arm friend. I usually use connecting threads or aurifil, but have this huge spool, or should I just use it for fmq'ing? Thanks for responses.

It will be fine for piecing. You will need a smaller needle then you use for the Connecting Threads cotton thread.

It is a 40 wt thread so may be a littler heavier than what you are used to. Also it has a tendency to be pretty slippery so your seams may come apart easily at the beginning and end of a unit. Personally, I would only recommend it for quilting or machine embroidery or machine applique where you want the stitches to stand out. Additionally I don't know how hot your iron is. The thread is not intended to be exposed to the high heats that some people press at so you could possibly melt it if you press your blocks with uber high heat and steam. That said, I piece with Superior bottom line in my bobbin all the time (also a poly) and have never had an issue but I do not use steam, only a dry iron when piecing. If it is a nice neutral color I would save it for quilting only.

I use Glide for everything. (piecing and quilting) My machine loves it.

I put a hot iron on a piece of Glide and it didn't do anything. I didn't let it set on it but pressed it like I would a seam.

I've never hard a problem pressing polyester threads - with or without steam. I use glide for more sewing than quilting. Just use the right size needle so it doesn't shred

What size needle is needed for this thread on a DSM? I use a 75.
