I am looking to purchase this 1919 Singer. Is $150. a good price? It's in a table with the drawers on each side. I haven't seen it in person yet. Thanks.

I don't know about the older machines, but there are plenty of people on the board that do. I'm sure you will get some help on it soon.

That's one of the ones I have!!!
It looks purdy, don't it?

I don't know what a good price for it is, but that seems fair to me. I'd sell mine for that, to keep the peace. Would I buy one for that? Probably, but I swear I'm not buying any more.

Find out, or make sure it takes a common bobbin. Others are hard to find.

Get the Serial # to verify that it IS made in 1919 and you can also see what model Singer is it. Some go for more than others. Also, check if there are attachments and a manual included. This increases the value. Also, check the wiring...there was no power cord shown in the picture.

Also, make sure the cabinet is in good shape and doesn't need a lot of repairs.

Depending on the model, any repairs needed do add up and that is a factor in deciding if the price is good.

When you go to see it, sew on it to make sure there aren't mechanical issues. Take fabric and thread with you, take a bobbin after you verify what kind it uses.

Didn't want to scare you away from it; just want to make sure you get what you want at a reasonable price.

If it's a treadle (looks like it to me), the decals are in good shape, and the cabinet is in good shape, then $150 would be about right. If any of these things are absent, the price would be less. An electric machine with good decals and a good cabinet would not be more than $100, for example. (At least where I am.)

I got a treadle machine that looks similar and is about the same age for $25.00. It depends on how well it works, and how much you want the machine. And condition of the cabinet, and... Well, the previous poster gave you a list of things to check.

It looks like an electric Singer model 15. It is a very tough machine, can sew heavy fabrics. I think that for Long Island, it is not a bad price, but make sure the machine motor works, the bobbin case is there, and hopefully the manual. You can easily get parts for it, but if any are missing, subtract a little $$. Class 15 bobbins can be gotten at any sewing store.

Thanks everyone! After reading all your advice, I spoke to the seller and she said it is a treadle that has been electrified. She has a manual, parts (whatever that means),and bobbins. She also said that the light goes on when the machine is turned on, but that she doesn't know if it sews. That probably means it doesn't sew...lol. I hope to take a look at it Sunday and will keep you all posted.
