Gosh! I sure hope I can get this out!!
I've been quilting a twin size Sunbonnet Sue for a friend of mine. She gave me the block to put together for her and then quilt. I'm on the middle row and had just come in this morning to work on it and noticed one of the blocks has what appears to be small, dark oil splatters on it. I can't quite figure out how this happened. It had to be from my machine. Anyway, I put powder on them to try to soak up any excess. I guess I'll tell my friend and then wash it when it I get it finished. As far as getting it out, I'm considering Goop, which takes off tractor grease or...I have a bottle of "Grandma's Secret Spot Remover" that I've never used. Any suggestions? Here's a picture of the spots:

Are you still able to get something between the layers? If you can then I would put a folded white paper towel behind the spots before trying anything. That way the spot won't go through to the batting and back. If you can't get something behind it, I would wait to try when you are done quilting. I would then try a q-tip with a clear dawn solution and dab one spot to see how it goes. You may need to embroider flowers or maybe french knots over the spots. Make that block Sunbonnet Sue in a hail storm.

The powder didn't do much for it. I think I may just wait until the quilt is done and then treat and wash the quilt. I'm assuming it is oil since there hasn't been anything else that would make spots like that around the quilt. I'm not even sure it is from the machine....

Years ago I used to work for a clothing manufacturer who used a spray for oil stains that ended up on the finished garments from the knitting machines. You can find an identical product at Hancock's fabrics, it's called Sullivan's Fast Spot Remover. You spray it on the oil spot, let dry, then brush it off. It leaves no residue. I use it ALL THE TIME on oh-so-dear hubby's silk ties and dress shirts - he seems to have a thing for butter.
