See this is why I love this board. So many different ideas. You should see some of the material he used in this quilt. Old polyesters and flannels. Looks like whatever he could find pretty much. Alot of the squares are still in tack. Keep the ideas comming I love them all and have not done anything with it yet.

Love the glass idea. I myself would hate to cut it up. I have seen pillow cases and cushions made from well loved quilts. I'm sure you will get lots of ideas here.

Could you post a picture of the quilt? I like the idea of making something for each of your children out of the good parts of the quilt. Might also add a picture of your grandpa run off on Printed Treasures (or similar), framed by the quilt pieces that are good. I can certainly understand why you would want to keep it!

I think I would reproduce the pattern in a new quilt, then clean, fold, and put the old one in a shadow box with some momentos of your grandpa, and pictures of your children using the quilt. I personally feel quilts are to be used and loved. Just think of all the memories tied up in that one quilt.

If you haven't already done so, I'd take a picture of the whole quilt as-is before you take it apart. I like the idea of framing pieces of it for each of your children or making them pillows. Something for each of them and something for yourself as well.

Great ideas. I'm in the same situation with two old quilts I inherited, one very worn and the other is VERY HEAVY (wool) and UGLY. But, hey, my grandmother's Women's Missionary Union in Hollandale (Mississippi) made it in 1954 so you know I have to do something with it. Keep the ideas coming!

Well I think I am going to take it apart and use the good half square triangles. The backing is paper thin you can see through it and there are big holes all the way through all three layers in quite a few spots I am going to frame alittle piece with a picture of my Grandpa. Thank you guys for all your help and ideas. I like the window thing. So thats what I will be doing.

Ive seen teddy bears made out them, size would depend on the good parts of the quilt.
