i'm very choosy when it comes to (a) whether or not to buy a special-purpose ruler or template; (b) which one to buy.

I know there are many good brands on the market, but i'm particularly fond of the Wright's EZ ruler/template line. I found their Tri-Rec tools on sale today at Joann's. the package contains BOTH tools needed to take the guesswork out of those pesky tall triangles within squares (like the ones in the 54/40 or Fight block (http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/23653.page).

To my surprise, i discovered that Joann's regular price for the set is lower than the other sites i searched. Right now, they're on sale for only $6.99 a set. even after tax and shipping i saved money. (now, really ... how often does that happen?)

WOOO HOOOO I love Joann's.

I learned something new last weekend while I was there though, and it kinda irked a little. You know like in last weeks flier there was a coupon book inside that had MANY different coupons, and EVERY coupon said "Limit one coupon per customer. Cannot be combined with any other discount or coupon." Well I get up to the register and there were people using EVERY single coupon out of the book. I was like WHAAAAAAAAT! The girl at the register was like "yea, you can use as many coupons as you want as long as they have different UPCs!" I didn't have the patients to deal with all three kids while I shopped for more fabric but you better believe I am taking my SIX 40% off coupons and going to Joann's today! I don't know what I will buy but I am sure I can find something I NEED! lol

Glad you were able to!

Can't be combined means you can't use two coupons on one item. You can use as many coupons as you want as long as you have one coupon per item that is not marked down. Same with Hobby Lobby.

My dauther and I both get the coupons in the mail. She does not use them so gives them to me.
Joanns will not let you use the same coupon even on two items.
If you have a newspaper coupon and one from your flyer they will let you use them.
Crazy system.

Great find, Patrice. I have found having the right tools can make the job go a lot faster and smoother. And getting a deal on that tool---well, that's just sweet!!
