My sister, who lives in St. Louis, just called me and said not to order fabrick from Hancocks USING A DEBIT CARD. She said that someone gets the account number and the pin number and is cleaning out their bank accounts. I myself haven't heard this but she said it is on the news there.

My hubby deals a lot with IT stuff. His recommendation is to NOT buy ANYTHING online with a debit card. Once a merchant has your number, they can keep charging you for something, (like the ACAI scam) because a debit card is an extension of your bank account. So...if you are buying online, use a credit card, as it is much easier to stop unwanted payments. (I work in a credit Union, so I know first hand he is right. )

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't had troubles so far but my debit is also a credit card. Not sure of difference, but so far I'm doing ok

Are you talking about Hancocks, the chain store, or Hancock's of Paducah? Thanks.

let's don't assume that buying from this merchant is unsafe. and let's be careful to not smear the whole business because of one thieving employee out of hundreds or thousands.

if it's true, then management already knows about it AND will take steps to prevent it happening again.

I didn't mean to smear Hancock's. And I didn't even say it was an employee because I don't that. I was only trying to prevent some one from losing their hard earned money. I am sure Hancock's is taking care of it.

I too live in the St. Louis area and they are talking about local Hancock stores in St. Louis, St. Louis County and the metro east. They haven't mentioned anything about ordering online.

Here is the article. It seems to be local and not online shopping. If the site online is secure you should be ok.

Thanks for the heads up! Any place of business might have a sorry employee at some time or another. Local Walmart had one that was faking gift card amounts, one hospital employee in billing was stealing credit card numbers, one restaurant employee was making double copies of credit card receipts. It's important to pay attention to what is happening elsewhere so you can be on guard everywhere.

Yep, I'm close enough to St. Louis to listen to their news stations and I gather it's a local problem. I believe it is on specific store in the greater St. Louis area.
