Default Hand quilting - solid stitch?

I've never hand quilted before, but the hand quilting I've seen is basically a running stitch where you see a stitch, then a space, then a stitch.

I have a project I'm working on and in a few small area's I want straight line quilting with a heavy thread (12wt). I've tried several combinations of bobbin thread, upper and lower tension adjustments, and I can't get the tension right. Then the lightbulb came on and I figured "just hand quilt it".

BUT ... I want a solid stitch. Not a stitch then a space then a stitch. I want a solid line of stitching.

Would I use a back stitch, or should I use a running stitch and do it twice?? Is one preferable to another??

If you want the look of a solid stitch line, then use the back stitch. Why do it twice? Good Luck!

I agree with lgc. There's enough 'endless' stitching without doing it twice!!! :-) Would love to see what you're doing!

Sorry, I would just be happy with what my machine can do. Just me.
