Question Hand-Quilting Thread (which to buy?)

I am hand-quilting a lap quilt for the first time, and I have an Aurifil 40wt thread that seems a bit too thin. It is only 2ply and I guess I need 40wt/3ply. (I've been online today reading about quilting threads.)

So I'm running out to JoAnn's to buy some thread. I thought I'd pick up some Gutermann hand-quilting thread.

Just wanted to ask before I left if you all had any suggestions on hand-quilting thread to buy.

Thx!

Gutermann hand-quilting thread should be fine. my first choice is YLI, but the right color and availability are more important.

I like a bit of definition in my hand quilting, so I tend to use a slightly heavier cotton thread.

I actually prefer a heavier thread for hand quilting. If I am going to go through all the effort and time to hand quilt I want it to show. I really enjoyed using Valdani 35wt cotton hand quilting thread but you definitely won't find that at JoAnn's. It has been so long since I have been to a JoAnn's I don't even know what they carry. Do you have a quilt shop in your area? You may be peasantly surprised to find what they offer there for hand quilting thread and needles.

Hi Neighbor! I have used YLI or Coats and Clark, although some don't like C&C I know many people that are happy w/it. I would like to try some others just to see how they compare. One problem I had w/the YLI is that because it is thicker I often had trouble getting it through the eye of my needle ( I use Roxanne size 9 or 10).

Be curious what you decide to use.

My favorite hand quilting thread is YLI and Superior threads King Tut. Gutermann isn't a bad choice for hand quilting.

THANKS EVERYONE!

I don't have a LQS nearby, so JoAnn's (or online) is my only option.

I did go to JoAnn's and pick up the Gutermann's hand-quilting thread.
It was buy one and get one free, so I got two.
