Default ? about embroidering a tea towel

Good Morning!
Okay, so I have this idea and I'm looking for some ideas to help me get this done. I bought a Moda tea towel in Florida:

I'd like to embroider this and then lightly quilt it to make a wall hanging. I do have two so I can practice on one.
I think I will need to line this before I start to embroider because the weave is slightly big. Maybe perle cotton would be too thick. I'm thinking of trying some Sulky 12 weight cotton.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
lots2do

I haven't tried that, but I would try the light iron-on fusible interfacing (like Pellon featherweight) (available at JoAnn Fabrics). It's very pretty and a good idea you have on how to use it!
