$145. That was a lot of money in 1945. I didn't realize they cost so much originally. But they were well worth it since so many are still in good order today. Kind of justifies the high prices today. I wonder what the present day value of that $145 would be? Anybody have an idea?

He is a keeper and have fun. they sew great and not knowing I would want it I let mom give her's away to lady who cleaned for her and boy do I regret it, as I could have had it. It was a white one from 60's. Sewed great and maybe someday I will find one.

Out of curiosity, I looked up how to calculate the value of 1949 $ in today's money. Most of the calculator programs I found used the Consumer Price Index increase from 1949 to today (actually to 2014) and gave an answer of about $1440 for that $145 cost back then. So featherweights really were pricey little machines, weren't they? Should make most of us feel better about what we're paying for them today.

I just received my Featherweight this past week-end and she's a beauty, in excellent condition and sews so nice, her name is Kady and she wll be going on her first outing tomorrow to a Quilt Retreat. She was born in 1954.
