Default What to do with the tails?.......

I'm making Jinny Beyer's Third Dimension for my nephew. I've been english paper piecing it and the effort has been worth it. It's coming beautifully with one exception - when I put the large hexagon blocks together I get these "masses" of 6 tails where the corners of the blocks are. What do I do with these tails? I've looked in the original directions -the block would apparently have these little tails weather machine pieced or otherwise and pressing direction wouldn't matter. Am I supposed to trim these off or will they lie flat when ironed? Thanks for the advise!

I just searched the pattern. It is a great pattern. Looking forward to seeing photos of yours. I am sorry, but I really do not know the answer to your question. In the past, I have trimmed some of my tails on various blocks and also just ironed them as flat as possible. But with this specific pattern, I would try and contact her and see what she recommends.

I find it difficult when 6 or more seams come together to get a nice flat seam. I think it is on Quilt In a Day where she sews her seams together and then picks out the stitches in the overlapping points and does a swirl with the little ears.

That's what I do...little swirls. But, I do trim the ears down some.

Thanks - I suppose I will try a bit of both and see what works. My DH said I could pay to have it quilted so I will post pics when it's done. Thanks again and wish me luck!

I sometimes swirl first then whack it flat with a hammer. Works.
