Has anyone done this
I want to make a 3D Pinwheel quilt. The pattern says to cut 4 five inch squares of both bachground & focus fabric. I'm really good at losing points, so can I cut my focus (pinwheel) fabric at 4.75 instead of 5 inches. I know clear as mud.

Nothing wrong with floating a block. It may help you save your points. When I received blocks from exchanges, they were all various sizes (some at least 1/2" smaller) and I would float them but sewing 4 larger triangles on each side. Being disable, I like to be able to oversize fabric pieces like Eleanor Burns does and trim them down. Just find out if this works for you. Experiment with making a block.

Mary,
That's what I need to know. Setting on point & using plain blocks really gives it a great look. Now I'll make a second one like yours. Since both couples don't want to know the sex of their baby till it's born I guess I'll need to make two baby boy & two baby girl quilts. If I only make one of each they are sure to have both have the same sex baby. I can always give the extra ones to charity.

Could someone give some simple written directions? I have it figured out mostly, but don't know how far to fold over the tip of the pinwheel. I would think you would want to keep that out of the center seams. There is enough fabric there already.
