I am near to finishing a black & white quilt for my soon to be 21 year old son (see this website for a photo of the framed rectangels pattern - http://www.maryquilts.com/framed-rectangles/
It is really easy, but my question is - I would like to make a pieced backing of various sized rectangles & squares of large blocks of black & white patterned fabrics, say like this idea here - (hopefully the link copied in - oops see below for download link)
I have a couple of lengths of black & white fabrics that will be good to use but am a little nervous at cutting into these without a pattern. I've looked on Google etc for ideas so look forward to any comments or photos of others that have trialled this. Lyn

That is very nice. I like it enough that I'll make it first for a charity baby quilt. I have masses of small pieces, perfect for such a quilt.

I like the idea and see no reason that it can't be done easily enough. I never thought of using Excel for a layout pattern. I love the quilt front pattern.

thanks Quilt Nan - the pattern is quite dramatic & not too fussy. Gale: thanks for that link (am slowly working my way thru them & there are some good ideas too) Many of those pictures seem (so far) to use like a strip of blocks across or down against a one colour background so not quite what I was thinking, but still have about 6 pages to check further. Thanks,
