Has anyone made a spiral mandala quilt like RaNae Merrill?

I haven't got her book http://www.ranaemerrillquilts.com/ but I have watched a video on the quilt show. So I drew up my own spiral mandala and was wondering if anyone had any tips for me. I am begining to wonder if I have bitten off more than I can chew

I haven't seen her video or her book but where I used to live a local woman used to teach how to paint your own personal mandala on silk - she claimed that you didn't need any experience that you could pick out patterns and use a copy machine then trace them onto the silk - so I don't know if you can do the same with quilting. I wish I could think of more but I will see if I can find her name and more information. Good luck.

I have her book but haven't done more than draw up a single block and stitch it using paper piecing. Just testing really.

I printed off my design and taped them all together for my master copy and they didn't line up properly. I must not have measures an exact 45 degree angle. GRRRRRR. Back to the drawing board I think I need a bigger protractor.

Hello Woody, be sure to check any store that has supplies for architects. That is where you will probably find a bigger one.

I have a couple of her books, but haven't made any quilts like that. I think I'd have to paper piece them because I really can't piece very precisely yet.

Woody, once you get your 45degree angle perfected, tape your master copy together, take a picture of it, and check out Spoonflower on the web. You might can use a picture of only one segment and let Spoonflower do the work for you. Check out the Quilt Show segment with Jane Dunnewold.

Sorry, no tips, but I'm keeping an eye on this thread because I'm interested in mandala quilts too. I think that they're amazing! I may have to get that book.
