    Has anyone tried this?

I saw the new solid fabrics for $2.97 at WalMart, and they don't feel bad on the bolt. Has anyone bought any yet, and if so, have you washed it to use it yet? Wondering about the feel of it after being washed and dried? Would you use it in a quilt?

That's a lot of money to invest in this. Think big and buy a whole yard. Worst that can happen, it turns into the back of some place mats.

I bought some. It's seems to be holding up just fine for the back of a drag around quilt I made for my grand toddler.

I am still skeptical about the price of this fabric. I haven't been to Walmart in over 3 months. But I remember the old saying, you get what you pay for keeps echoing in my head.

I agree you get what you pay for but in some cases, larger retailers who purchase in bulk can offer better prices. I have used Walmart fabric in many quilts and it seems to hold up just fine.

Seven years ago I retired and for a gift one gal gave me several yards of fabric from WalMart and a pattern because she knew I wanted to learn to quilt. I didn't wash it but made a quilt, put a "fat" batt in it and have used it every Wisconsin winter on our bed since. It gets washed several time a winter and of course when it is put away for the summer months. It has held up beautifully and still has its bright colors. Having said that, I buy from one of my favorite quilt shops and on line more than I do from WalMart but am going to check it out and pick some up for backs and see how it works. Thanks for asking this question. grammasharon

I see the same fabric at Wal Mart that I see at Jo-Ann's. Only it's cheaper at Wal Mart. Like fabric everywhere, some is better than others. Never had a problem with their Cranston line....or, indeed, any other I've bought there.

Fabric I bought at Jo-Ann's on Sunday feels kind of stiff but thin. I didn't pre-wash (as I often do) because I was in a hurry. I hope it holds up. It was not cheap ($7.99 a yard) and not on sale (though I used a coupon). Hope it holds up since it's now the backing on the little quilt I'm working on.
