Quilts for Kids will send you a precisely cut kit to start out with, but they encourage you to make your own designs, within certain parameters, and send those in, so you can be as creative as you like. And if you can't sew, they gladly accept $$$ to help with their washing and shipping, so there's no excuse for anyone to feel like they are not useful.

I also made 4 sleeping mats for Project Linus out of one giant unfinished quilt that was donated through my local JoAnn's for victims of the earthquake in Haiti. My cat Frankie is resting on one of the finished quarters in my avatar photo.

Working for both organizations was very satisfying.

Thanks for all the input. I've put an email in to the local chapter leader for PL and am looking into QFK. Thanks everyone!

Enjoy! There is nothing as rewarding as making quilts for others.

My granddaughter and niece were both given Linus quilts and they meant so very much to the whole family. I have a friend who has quilted OVER 4,000 quilts for Linus.

Depending on where you live (everyone describes Upstate NY differently) if you are near Rochester, Jackie Lynn's Fabrics in Irondequoit is a place to drop off your blankets for PL. We used to collect them in our church and then I'd either take them to Jackie Lynn's or to the coordinator's house.
