"I haven't quilted enough to be able to quess my thread needs yet. Any tips on how to do that so this won't happen to me again? "
go to the Superior Thread website and look for the education section. there is advice on how much thread different sizes of quilts take to quilt.
I hope the new color you are waiting for will be a good match but if it doesn't, I think something slightly lighter rather than darker would work better. Good Luck.

That is exactly what I would do. It will look like you planned to do it that way. Might quilt it differently too by doing a stitch 1/4" inside the ditch of each key.

Thank you for all the advise. I haven't decided what i'm going to do yet, but think I'll wait for the new thread to arrive before I make a final decision. Again, thanks for helping me; you've given me several very good options, which i needed badly.

Since it will be your personal quilt, I'd go with the "guy galloping by on a horse" method. OR "can you see the difference from across the road"??? Some times we get so caught up in this square inch, we don't see the whole quilt.

I just rushed over to my thread boxes as I have purchased many colors from Connecting Threads. I thought I could help you out, but I do not have that color. I do hope you are able to find something close. (fingers crossed)
