I need some help. I'm working on the "All Around the Neighborhood" quilt from the fabshophop and am having trouble trying to make the roof of the house.
It seems there must be some kind of trick or some knowledge I don't have but I can't seem to be able to figure out how to sew on the upper triangle so that when the time comes to sew this block to another, the top of the roof (the tip) won't be cut off.
I know I have to have 1/4 inch above the tip but I don't know how to line up the two blocks to achieve that. And maybe this one will be fine, but when I go to line up the next triangle, I can't figure out how to get them together so that there will be that 1/4 inch seam at the top. I would also appreciate it if someone could tell me what this is called as my attempts at searching for help online haven't given me any results that would help here. Thank you.

Go back to your member area of the Shop Hop and check to see if this block is one that had corrections posted. I think 7 blocks had corrections!! Good Luck!

Unfortunately, these are the correct ones! It's just that I'm the one that needs tweaking...
Have you tried these? If so maybe you can see what I'm doing wrong. That third triangle seems much too large for its spot.

looks likewhen you sewed the dark strip it made the triangle smaller than the left. Perhaps the left should be trimmed to the size of the right. But be sure and press the right one first. It looks in the picture that it will line up with the center.

Looks to me like the light blue triangle is not big enough. When you sew it on it should hang off the top by 1/4 inch. Then when the 2nd triangle is attached, it will sew over the roof and the 1/4 of the blue to make the top corner. That will then leave a 1/4 of the blue for top seam.

I'd make the blue at least 1/2 inch bigger and sew from bottom of roof to top. You can always cut off the extra at the top.

Just MHO though!

I'm not doing a good job of asking this question. How do you sew the two triangles so that they will line up correctly? should the bottoms match? I've taken apart 3 of these already as I either sew them too high or too low. I can't seem to figure out how the seams should be aligned.

Looks like my reply crossed your answer at the same time. I have carefully checked all of the measurements and have cut them correctly. So the seams should hang off by 1/4 inch? I don't think it did- guess that's obvious to you. The first blue triangle is larger as it is than the one that is sewn in pieces and that one seems too large. This is very confusing.

It helps if you nip off the dog ears first.

I'm not totally convinced your blue triangles are cut large enough. That first triangle that is already sewn on looks too small to me. However, it may be giving that impression because we are seeing only the right side. Could you flip it over so we can see how the seam allowances are lined up on the wrong side?
