I've seen the term 'heirloom stitches' listed as one of the functions on several sewing machines I've been keeping my eye on. What are heirloom stitches?

I may be wrong, but I believe they're the fancy stitches that you can/could use for like a crazy quilt and embellishing clothes, home decor, etc.

My cheapie machine lists feather, rampart, leg and blind hem stitches as heirloom stitches.

Just had a chuckle to myself here as I imagined a little old lady stitching with many lamps and glasses stitching 50 stitches to the inch!!!! Oh how I have so much more to learn about quilting!!!!!!!!

Heirloom stitches is for making delicate clothing items, such as pintucks. smoclking and lace inserts. Check out Martha Pullens site.

I took a class on heirloom stitching, and Martha Pullen is the best current authority on it. I have her books and videos. Never did anything with most of it, but did enjoy smocking.

This dress for my granddaughter is the result of a local licensed teacher for Martha Pullen. It helps to have a machine with heirloom stitches, but it is not necessary.
