    Default Help with border fabric

I had so much fun with the fabrics and the big blocks, but now it's calling for a 3" outer border. I have four fabrics that I am considering. The quilt is flowers, hearts and cats. I also considered using one of the bright solids for the outer border, but I think the mostly black B&W looks the best.

First picture is entire quilt with all four border choices. #2 pic is a choice between butterflies on a slightly pink background and big flowers on a black background. #3 is mostly black with white heart line drawings. #4 is a B&W cat themed border print.

Thanks for your time and opinions!

I'm with you--like the mostly black B & W or 2nd choice would be the cats--with all their paws toward the center.

I would put a border of the black, then another using the cat fabric, with no colours.

I don't like the solid-looking black w/ the darker black 1 inch border - the blacks do'nt look right side by side.

I don't like the white background fabric because it is too light - in color and visual weight.

I love the cats because it adds whimsey. I also like the black floral (lower right sample)

If the recipient is a cat person I would use that. If it is not for anyone specific I would go with the black background with large white flowers.

I would have just put a black border on the quilt. I like the border to be quiet and the piecing to be the main focus. Just my opinion.

I can still do the solid black border, it will just be added to the 1" inner border and after quilting the seam will not even be noticed.

I think I'm going to have to remove the white butterfly block and turn it over. I thought it was non-directional, but they all look upside down to me.
