Smile Ripping......Again!!

Yesterday I was putting together the beginnings of a block for a table runner. It involved putting together three pieces first and making a total of five like that. Granted, I was talking to my daughter on the phone so wasn't completely focused, but on one section I put the pieces together wrong three times!! I couldn't help but think of the many posts on here about ripping!

Yes we all hate days like that. When it is happening to me I just give up for awhile. And then usually when I go back its like fresh eyes. Plus I'm always afraid when I'm ripping out that I'll snag a thread or something (which I have done) and then have to replace that piece and my luck is that it is the one fabric I'm running low on.

I find a small design board at my machine helps alot. I often get distracted and if I have a block on the design board it just helps me remember which section to sew and where.

i keep the design handy to follow, too. but my favorite 'trick' is to sew the pieces right side to wrong side

Oh, I am having that problem on a very simple block the last couple of days that uses just 2 fabrics. Done both the same mistake multiple times, wrong to right side and mixed up the two different fabrics and side pieces.

I need another ripper to keep handy.

I know the feeling well. When I try to sew when I am not felling well I do so many crazy things that I need my ripper hung around my neck.

Just did this same 'trick' the other day. Fortunately it was only on one set to make HST's. Otherwise it would have been VERY ugly - no pun intended! I've also recently started pinning things on the seam lines and checking when things just don't look/sound like they work correctly. Has help immensly, especially with PP'ing things to make sure the piece of fabric covers the total area with enough overage for trimming!
