Ok I was cleaning out a closet and I found some fabric from 4 or 5 years back. Some of the fabric I found is from my first quilt when I was shaking it out my son said that is like my quilt. I plan on storing the scraps from that quilt with the original quilt for when my son has a son or daughter.
Any way the rest I am adding to my stash basket. One piece is about 7 yards long and to big to work with as it is. What is a good working length? 2 yards 3.

When I know I am using all the fabric or almost all of it for one project, I cut it into 1 yd lengths. It's easier for me to iron and cut in my small space.

Silly me..I leave mine the longest length until I am sure that I don't need it to cut long borders.

I am with sandpat, I don't cut my fabric until I know what I am going to use it for. Borders come off first before I start cutting for piecing.

I was thinking of the border thing and for the moment I don't plan on any quilts bigger then say 70-80 inches wide/long. 2.5 yards would put it at 90 inches and 3 yards would be 108 so that should be long enough for borders. I might be able to handle.

Thanks for your imput!

I agree with Sandpat and Shemjo, in case of borders and bindings, etc., but it's your choice.
