HELP!!! Have drawn a blank...
We'll blame it on the drugs for the crud I'm taking....
I want to make a 1600 inch jelly roll quilt. Found the jelly roll (finally) at Missouri Quilt Company. Now to determine how much I need in backing and borders.
The finished quilt is 48 x 64 inches. I want to put a 2 inch and a 3 inch border on it. So how much fabric do I need for the 2 borders and backing.
thanks for your help!!!
Can't wait until I feel better.
Hugs!

1600/2=800 2 rows at 2" finished
800/2=400, 4 rows
400/2=200, 8 rows
200/2=100, 16 rows
100/2=50, 32 rows.
The quilt is now 50x64 without borders. so, with a 2" border, you need (if butting and not mitering) 2 pieces at 2.5"x64 plus 2 at 2.5" (unfinished)x54 about 236" total, or seven strips to allow a tad extra in case you want to join the strips on the bias (I do this) 2.5" strips cut WOF for a total of 1/2 yard of fabric (with room for error). (estimating 40" usable fabric in the WOF)
for the second border, the quilt will be 54x68. for the 3" border, you need (again, if butting and not mitering) 2 pieces at 3.5x68 and 2 at 3.5x60, about 256" total, or seven strips for a total of 1/2 yard fabric.
Hope this helps. Happy holidays!

Thanks! I'm not mitering the corners. They'll just be sewn across the top and then down the sides.
What about the backing. How much will I need for it?
I want to use the jelly roll that's on sale at Missouri Quilting Co for my sewing room.
You guys are great!!! Thanks again!

For the backing, 3-3/4 yard should do it. You'd cut it in half and sew the two pieces together along a lengthwise (selvedge) edge, which would give you a piece about 67" x 80" . Your quilt top will be about 58" x 74" so that gives plenty of extra if you are quilting on a frame, and for shrinkage if pre-washing.
