Fabric.com has lots of juvenile fabrics that would work. I've seen roads with cars on them.

Route 66 is all about diners and food! A great fabric with diners and diner food?

I've seen muscle car fabric that would be great for the back of this quilt.

Nice quilt!! Does he have a favorite race car driver? I like the checkered flag design or the road map ideas

Thanks y'all. Great ideas.

They got me to thinking in a different direction and that's exactly what was needed. Think I need to make a trip to a real fabric store (what a problem ). I had bought some black & while checked that makes you think of Nascar flags but, the black and white just didn't look right with all that blue. Depending on what I find at the store, the black and white might work in somehow for the backing.

**This was like a virtual quilt meeting. Cool.

I think the checkered flag look on it's own might be just too much! Breaking it with the lefltover fabrics from the front would work perfectly. They could each be the same width, or if it was me, I'd probably go with variable widths of all.

It would be cool if you could make it look like a road. Black with a white line on sides and yellow strips down the middle.

I would just use what you have and make borders around it until it's the size you need. I've done it plenty of times and it looks very nice
