We had the same problem with a spool of Connecting Threads. We changed the needle to a metallic needle. Now it works perfectly.

Do you have estate auctions where you are? I've bought probably 4 or 5 machines at auctions, 2 of them are old Singers, I don't know if they work, but the other ones do and I got them for under $30.00. It might be worth a try to see if you could get one.

I got my old ones at thrift store and garage sales...3 to 15 dollars. You should check them. I wish you were closer I would give you one :D

What great finds, we don't have auctions here like I'm used to most of the time they are auction houses where they buy entire houses of stuff and sell it off all in one day, but I've never seen anything like that.

Years ago we saw an old sewing machine in a cabinet at a thrift store, but that was long before I'd dreamed of sewing. :D That place was great they had everything, I picked up a knit baby blanket for 50 cents once, but alas not enough people thought they were good because now they're gone. I'll continue to be on the lookout.

Ive tried the expensive threads at the shops and have troubles.
So just went back to Coats and Clarks with the thread keeper on top.
It always works and no clog ups in my new digital machine.
Its the thread at Joanns.

I am NOT spendin' more on thread than on material :lol:

I don't have any problems with the walmart mainstays brand, although I have switched over to coats & clarks dual duty (more colors.)

Now either I have the world's most forgiving machine, or it's dumb luck - but I bought some "hand quilting thread" at joanns awhile back for like 50 cents a spool . . .and it works in the machine. I don't put it in the bobbin though.

After hearing about machines giving people fits, I guess I just love the little starter machine I got a few years back for under $150 (Brother) and the "upgrade" I treated myself too this spring for under $200 (Singer).

DD is using the Brother now to learn on :lol: and raiding my stash!

I have used Connecting Treads Essential Thread lots and lots. It is good, though I do get a little more lint in my feed dogs and bobbin area than I do with Mettler or Gutterman. I gave up on the Coats and Clarks and won't buy cheap thread now that I have an expensive machine. My Bernina dealer gave me a lecture on using good thread so I try to be careful.

I bought a Brother quilting machine at Tuesday Morning for 129 bucks.
Its a good backup machine but it dosnt have needle down or pivot. It came with a plastic table and walking foot which is nice. It is a good cheap machine but I wanted a big throat for machine quilting.
I love my new H. Viking with all the stuff I wanted. It is not a embroidery machine but has everything else. The price was good compared to Bernina.

Quiltinsolitude......I used "hand quilting thread" in my machine and was given a talk to from my quilt store...she said it will mess up the tension on the machine and then you will have to have your machine torn apart and cleaned...since the "hand quilting thread" has a wax on it it gums up the tension.....DON"T USE

Help I'm at the End of My Spool!

That title is so cute. Do you know anyone who doesn't use their machine much and would be willing to loan it to you until the Sun Shines. I borrowed one of my Mom's machines until I could get a fairly good one for myself....and then my sister borrowed the same machine. I like the idea of watching the estate and garage sales for a good ole Singer that has metal parts. I would guess that many friends could help you watch for one.
