I want to make a 6.5 unfinished square with 1/2 square trianges. How does the math work? This may be why I only make squares! :)

One light color 6 7/8 piece and one dark 6 7/8 piece. Light on top of dark, right sides together. draw line corner to corner crosswise, and stitch 1/4 in from drawn line on both sides. cut on line and open and press, you will have two 1/2 square triangles. :)

Great instructions. I was sitting here trying to put it down on paper and was confusing myself.

A lot of people cut 7 inch squares and then do the diagonal thing.

Theoretically, the 6-7/8 square should work - but many of us have better success with a 7 inch square and the trimming the HST units.

That's how I do it. With my "casual" math, it works much better for me this way.

I also go up to the next full inch measurement and then square the block to the measurement needed. Works for all sizes.
