I took a walk through the local thrift store today and saw 2 machines both in cabinets. Both cabinets were structurally fine but needed some cleaning up etc. The first machine was a World Rotary, which I admit I have never heard of.The number was very hard to read but i believe it was 127x2773...the price was $5.00. The second was a White sewing machine #FR 3249801.. the price for this one was $25. Knowing nothing really about either machine I just wondered if anyone else did and if you would consider buying them if only for the cabinets...thanks...i do plan to google "world rotary" and see if I can find any info.

No, I saw this at a local second hand furniture store. I have never heard of a "World Rotary" brand machine before but i am pretty new at this, and a $5 price tag made it tempting but if i can't find out any info. I don't know if I could find parts or service. I know I should probably just spend $5 and take a chance

I would guess that a machine with a name followed by "Rotary" is going to be a badged White. Any machine is going to be worth $5!! :)
Sounds like good prices for either of them...but you can tell how much the "name brand" adds to the price!

I know i sound ridiculous since it is $5 I am just thinking whether i could do anything with it, if you feel it is actually a white then i should be able to find parts and service..right? I am listening to that little voice in my head saying " don't bring anymore of your "useless antique treasures" in unless you get a storage unit..lol

Unless you actually need one of these machines, I guess I would pass on them. Cabinets -- unless they are extraordinary -- are not worth much, plus if the existing machine head doesn't work it's tricky to find another head that will fit the cabinet without modifications.
A rotary machine in a cabinet usually weighs a *ton*. This is not an ensemble you want to move into your home unless you are sure it works and are sure you are going to use it.
Is the $25 machine a portable? Portables sell more easily than machines in cabinets just because they are ...well... portable -- easier to move around and taking up less space if stored. If it's a portable it might make a good backup machine, but even then I'd want to bring some thread and fabric to the store to make sure it actually sews and forms a stitch.

I, myself am debating whether or not to "save" a Singer Queen Anne cabinet. Our town is having the annual Bulk pickup and it's still there on the curb. The finish is all gone and all the parts are in it. setting pins etc. with most of the finish gone I'm thinking it shouldn't be too hard to stain it then clear coat it after. what do you think???
