It's an old pattern and I was hoping there would be an updated way to make it without using templates. Anyone know of a good pattern of it maybe in a quilt book? BlockBase lists the block as being know as Oriental Splendor too but I can't find a pattern by that name that is the same as Smoothing Iron.

I can't find many pictures of this quilt pattern but here is one that won in a recent quilt show.

I think it is a wonderful pattern with so many great possibilities. Fons and Porter makes it easy with rotary cutting and piecing, no templates! It's a vintage pattern.

My mother made this quilt in 1940. I still have it although it is very worn out and beyond repair. I keep it as a pet I guess. I will go to Fons and Porter to try to get the pattern. Thank you so much.
